Abstract

In the context of the complex and contradictory development of modern society and the global intensification of interstate relations, our country is compelled to address the challenges of ensuring national and border security by relying on public support. At the same time, due to the influence of various objective and subjective factors, a number of social problems have accumulated, adversely affecting the relationship between the state and the population—especially in the border regions. Under the current conditions of problematic development in these territories, engaging the local population to support state institutions in countering threats to public stability and encouraging civic participation in the interests of border security has become increasingly difficult. Based on the results of an empirical sociological study and an analysis of existing experience in the development of border regions, the authors examine both positive and negative trends in the formation of state–society relations in the border areas of the North Kazakhstan and Zhambyl regions. The article offers specific recommendations aimed at improving these relationships in the context of enhancing border security.
