Abstract

This article examines income inequality in Kazakhstan using the Gini index as a benchmark against global and regional indicators. It examines trends in the Gini index in Kazakhstan from the 1990s to the present, and compares its dynamics with those of the global average, as well as those of key regions and groups of countries, including Kazakhstan. A trend toward an increase in the Gini index in Kazakhstan over the past decade is revealed. The relationship between the Gini index and macroeconomic indicators is examined, including through correlation analysis. The influence of macroeconomic factors such as GDP, economic growth, and per capita GDP on the dynamics of the Gini index is considered. Kazakhstan's current global Gini index position is assessed, as well as among countries with similar macroeconomic indicators. The analysis leads to conclusions about a fairly favorable situation with income inequality in Kazakhstan, based on the low absolute values of the Gini index and the country's high global position in an international comparison of this indicator.
