This paper examines the spread of new forms of religious and spiritual self-determination among Kazakhstani youth that arise under the influence of globalization processes. The empirical basis of the study is data from a two-wave sociological survey conducted between December 2023 and March 2024 and involving 2,000 respondents aged 18 to 35 years. The data was collected using the Professional 3KA program (license E-B-9979), and their subsequent processing and interpretation were carried out using IBM Statistics SPSS Version 30.0.0.0 (172) software.
In the framework of the study, the authors focus on the peculiarities of the spiritual self-determination of Kazakh youth, its role in the process of rethinking traditional religious practices and worldviews, as well as the desire to adapt to the challenges of modernity. It is noted that in recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the phenomenon of youth abandoning institutionalized traditional models of religion and turning to alternative forms of spiritual search in the field of social sciences. This trend determines both the theoretical and practical significance of the conducted research.
The results reveal a variety of perception patterns of religiosity, non-religiosity and spiritual quest among the youth of Kazakhstan. The article was prepared within the grant funding from the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (AR19679699 “Religiosity/spirituality, well-being and identity of Kazakhstani youth: a comparative country study”).
