The article is an analysis of the formation and development of digital sociology as an independent field within the framework of modern sociological science. The impact of digitalization on sociological theory and practice is analyzed, including the transformation of data collection and analysis methods under the influence of information technology, as well as practical methods for solving methodological problems in different countries. The article examines the impact of digitalization of public administration on the development of sociology in Kazakhstan using the example of the e-government platform (eGov). The expansion of methods and tools of sociological research and practice is directly related to the emergence of new data sources. In turn, this raises new questions related to big data, platform surveys, the «digital» representation of citizens, as well as challenges related to unequal access and trust. Kazakhstan holds high positions in international rankings for the development of e-government, while simultaneously facing heterogeneity in the use of services and problems reaching vulnerable groups. The analysis of these phenomena requires a combination of theoretical achievements of sociology and empirical work with eGov data and relevant population surveys. Based on the analysis of research results and the results of eGov-based sociological surveys published in the media, key trends have been identified: the transformation of the methodology of sociology, the digital divide, changing trust in institutions, new forms of citizen participation and challenges to data quality.
